After an initial evaluation in our office which includes an in-depth discussion with your Doctor and patient education on sleep health, you may be referred by your practitioner for further evaluation including, if necessary, testing at our Sleep Center. Dr. Orlando is the medical director of the Largo Medical Center for Sleep and this state of the art JAHCO-certified facility implements a highly specialized and trained staff. The facility is located at Indian Rocks Campus and each large private room includes a flat-screen TV, its own bathroom, and further accommodations can be supplied, in most cases. Some of the various sleep tests used during a sleep study are:
Polysomnogram (PSG) Sleep Study: overnight recording of breathing, brainwaves, heart activity and muscle movements that can help diagnose sleep apnea and other sleep disorders
CPAP titration: people that have sleep apnea are commonly treated with CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) which is generally a small mask that is worn during the night to assist in breathing while you are asleep. The staff will work with each person to find the most comfortable and best fitting mask for each patient.
Split Night Sleep Study: Combination of PSG and CPAP study performed over the course of the same night
Maintenance of Wakefulness Test: daytime test to evaluate ability of a person to stay awake
Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT): Daytime test usually preceded by a nighttime test (PSG) that evaluates the person's tendency to fall asleep when given the opportunity to take 4-5 short naps. This is helpful in the diagnosis of narcolepsy and other sleep disorders
